Aquarel, Patricia Urquiola’s new collection for Budri
The new Aquarel collection, designed by Patricia Urquiola for Budri, is the result of an unusual symbiosis between Classical Roman Travertine and Iranian White Onyx. An unusual combination of a material widely used in architecture for its strength and durability and the delicate transparency of White Onyx, interpreted in this collection through a pictorial and contemporary language.
“My work is often based on observation. I am always careful to analyse the material I work with, not only from the point of view of colour but also from what it can convey.
Looking at slabs of Iranian White Onyx and placing my hand behind it, I realised how uneven the transparency of this material is. This seemingly negative aspect instead allowed me to experiment on Onyx, inspired by watercolour painting. This creates incredible colour nuances, which vary according to the natural cloudiness of this wonderful stone.
Inspirations often arise by chance and the most beautiful thing in all this is to discover the unpredictability of this fantastic material.”
Alessandra Malagoli Budri – Art Director
Shades of colour in pastel tones contrast with the porosity and apparent roughness of Travertine, in a harmonious coexistence of colours and shapes in an artistic allure. The skilful combination of colours in warm tones that fade into cold tones becomes a large painter’s canvas characterised by the uniqueness of each brushstroke.
